Ten HPA 8th graders competed at History Day California in Sacramento. These projects qualified by winning at the Los Angeles County contest and are the result of months of historical research and project refinement.
Alex J., Carissa C., Francesca G.-N., and Katherine C. were selected as finalists for their website, “Code Name Gadget: Debate, Diplomacy, and the Atomic Bomb.”
Two other websites competed:
“Kennedy, Khrushchev, and Castro: The World at Edge” by Aurix H., Cory L., Ethan C.
“The Fight for Children’s Rights: Debate and Diplomacy” by Eliana G. and Emma N.
Also, one documentary screened at the competition:
“Mutually Assured Destruction: The Clash Between Two Nuclear Superpowers” by William Z.
Next year, the theme for National History day will be “Frontiers in History.”
