High Point Students Embrace Shakespeare in the Summer

By Colleen Zeiss

Looking for a fun evening with the family? Several High Point eighth graders and teachers can give you a great idea: go see a free performance of Shakespeare in the park!

On Sunday, July 14th, junior-high students, teachers, and their family members gathered together to see the Independent Shakespeare Company’s performance of Twelfth Night at the Old Zoo in Griffith Park.

Every summer, the theater company hosts its Shakespeare Festival. They offer performances of two plays throughout the summer months every Wednesday through Sunday, and it is all free! This year, they are performing Twelfth Night and Pericles. The unique outdoor setting of Griffith Park combined with the fabulous acting makes this a must-see event!

Visit their website for more information about this summer’s performances: http://www.iscla.org/festival-2019.

As part of the summer English assignment, one eighth-grade class is required to see a Shakespeare performance and then complete a creative writing assignment in response. Several students decided to enjoy the show together with their families, friends, and teachers.

It was a wonderful night of good food, good company, and good theater!
