Black History Storytelling with Augmented Reality

By Dr. Jeffery Flagg, Ed. D.

Part of the fourth-grade STEAM curriculum emphasizes information literacy through research. For their second-quarter project, the fourth-grade class selected a notable individual in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) to celebrate Black History. Once students selected their figure, they created a report in Google Docs that would be adapted to a graphical medium using augmented reality (AR). Using CoSpaces and the AR object Merge Cube, students shared their work with peers for questions and feedback. Additionally, we spent a class discussing the usefulness of augmented reality as a real-life experiential tool for learning and information.
