The fourth grade has recently raised an amount of $583 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by selling origami to peers!

All the fourth graders contributed, ”Some students made origami, some made fliers, some worked the register, some arrived early for set up, and everyone supported the cause by shopping and giving extra donations,” said fourth grade teacher Mrs. Lievense.

On the week of October 9-13, the fourth grade sold origami to their grade members, putting a podium between the door separating the two classrooms and displaying their products.

The entire process took a month to plan, with help from everyone all around. The fourth graders made swans, fortune tellers, blow-up balloons, pianos/couches, flowers, bookmarks, and squishies to sell. All the proceeds were donated to Make-A-Wish foundation, non-profit organization/charity that grants wishes to kids with who are either terminally or chronically ill. If a child with cancer wanted to visit Disney World, for example,  Make-A-Wish could make it happen. Of course, there restrictions to a wish (i.e. the wish will not negatively affect the child’s health, cannot involve firearms, etc), but Make-A-Wish was mainly chosen by the fourth grade because they felt empathy for the kids who were ill and wanted to make them feel special.

The fourth grade may continue to raise money for other organizations, with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as A potential next candidate.
